Will have chance to start Week 1
Wed, May 11, 2022, 12:59 PM
Pryor said Wednesday that he's been told he'll get first crack at the starting left tackle position, Zak Keefer of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Pryor signed a one-year, $5.5 million deal with the Colts in March after being traded to Indianapolis ahead of the 2021 regular season. With Eric Fisher no longer with the team, Pryor is expected to face competition from rookie Bernhard Raimann and recently acquired Dennis Kelly.
Signs with Indianapolis
Tue, May 10, 2022, 12:27 PM
The Colts signed Kelly on Tuesday, Aaron Wilson of ProFootballNetwork.com reports.
Analysis: Kelly started four games for the Packers in 2021, including Green Bay's playoff loss to the 49ers. The veteran figures to provide valuable depth along the Colts' dominant offensive line during the 2022 campaign.
Still rehabbing ankle
Wed, May 4, 2022, 1:18 PM
Leonard told reporters Wednesday that he's still getting rehab on his injured ankle, but he doesn't anticipate needing additional surgery, Stephen Holder of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Leonard had offseason ankle surgery ahead of the 2021 campaign, but the issue still bothered him for the majority of the season. However, the injury didn't impact his overall numbers as he finished with 122 tackles, eight pass deflections, four interceptions, eight forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. The 2018 second-round pick signed a five-year extension with the Colts in August of 2021, so the lingering ankle issues are a bit of a concern for the team long term. Regardless, the All-Pro linebacker proved last year that he can still be productive even when he's limited.
Kylen Granson
Kylen Granson Increased competition at TE
Sun, May 1, 2022, 10:06 PM
Granson faces increased competition for the No. 2 tight end role with the Colts drafting two tight ends in the 2022 NFL Draft, The Athletic reports. The Colts selected Jelani Woods in the third round (73rd overall) and Andrew Ogletree in the sixth round (192nd overall).
Analysis: Granson entered the offseason as a potential starting tight end after the retirement of Jack Doyle, but the Colts re-signed Mo Alie-Cox in free agency and then drafted two tight ends. It's unlikely Woods or Ogletree will compete for a significant role in the passing game, but Granson will need to earn the No. 2 tight end role in the offense this summer.
Seventh-round pick by Indianapolis
Sat, Apr 30, 2022, 5:11 PM
The Colts selected Thomas in the seventh round of the 2022 NFL Draft, 239th overall.
Analysis: The Colts listed Thomas as a 'DB' rather than a corner or safety, but the Yale product definitely has the athleticism to play cornerback. At 6-foot-2, 196 pound with long arms, Thomas posted solid pro day numbers with a 4.51-second 40, 41-inch vertical jump and 127-inch broad jump.
Depth defensive lineman to Indy
Sat, Apr 30, 2022, 4:20 PM
The Colts selected Brooks in the sixth round of the 2022 NFL Draft, 216th overall.
Analysis: Brooks played at Cincinnati over the course of six seasons and finally emerged as a quality starter last year, tallying 7.5 sacks en route to first-team All-AAC honors. Expect the 24-year-old to primarily act as rotational depth along the defensive line to begin his career.
Yet another TE to Indy
Sat, Apr 30, 2022, 3:19 PM
The Colts selected Ogletree in the sixth round of the 2022 NFL Draft, 192nd overall.
Analysis: Ogletree becomes the second tight end selected by the Colts over the last two days. The Youngstown State product did run a 4.70 40-yard dash at 260 pounds during his pro day, but he lacks agility and didn't flash the aforementioned straight-end speed on tape. Ogletree, who will be 24 by the start of the 2022 season, likely will be a special teams asset, at best, entering his rookie year.
Indianapolis selects in Round 5
Sat, Apr 30, 2022, 1:45 PM
The Colts selected Johnson in the fifth round of the 2022 NFL Draft, 159th overall.
Analysis: Johnson was not a combine invite and played at a low level of competition (Missouri State), but he's a toolsy one-gap sort of defensive tackle with a 4.87-second pro day 40 at 6-foot-4, 299 pounds. Wheels like that should make him an off-the-bench pass-rushing specialist at the least.
Speedy add for Indy D
Fri, Apr 29, 2022, 10:13 PM
The Colts selected Cross in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft, 96th overall.
Analysis: Cross is a missile out of Maryland at 6-foot, 212 pounds with 4.34 speed, and it wouldn't be surprising to see him as a viable starter at safety in the near future. For the time being, he might be somewhat redundant to Khari Willis, who, like Cross, probably fits better in the box than far downfield. Size and speed like Cross' usually finds a way on the field somehow, even if primarily on special teams initially.
Heads to Indy
Fri, Apr 29, 2022, 9:13 PM
The Colts selected Raimann in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft, 77th overall.
Analysis: Raimann, a native of Austria, began his career at Central Michigan as a tight end. However, the coaching staff decided his 6-foot-6, 303-pound frame would be more useful at left tackle. The transition was smooth as he earned first-team All-MAC honors as a senior. There was some first-round hype on Raimann but he ended up sliding to the third, making this a strong value for the Colts, who had a need at left tackle.
Scooped by Indy
Fri, Apr 29, 2022, 9:01 PM
The Colts selected Woods in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft, 73rd overall.
Analysis: Woods becomes the second tight end off the board in this class. His size jumps off the page at 6-foot-7 and 259 pounds with 34.5-inch arms but he can move, too. Woods ran an impressive 4.61 in the 40-yard dash at the combine and the film showed good movement skills for a player his size. He blossomed in the Virginia offense in 2021 after transferring over from Oklahoma State, catching 44 of 70 targets for 598 yards and eight touchdowns. Indianapolis invested a pick at tight end last year in Kylen Granson, though, so this is an interesting landing spot. With Jack Doyle's retirement, there's a path to Woods finding a role eventually, but Mo Alie-Cox and Granson project to be higher on the depth chart this season.
Becomes Indy's first pick of 2022
Fri, Apr 29, 2022, 7:49 PM
The Colts selected Pierce in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft, 53rd overall.
Analysis: Pierce becomes Indianapolis' first selection of this draft and he fills an immediate need. The Cincinnati product was the alpha of the Bearcats' receiving corps and commanded a 22 percent target share in 2021, which he converted into 52 grabs for 884 yards and eight touchdowns with a 10.4 YPT average. Pierce boosted his stock with a standout combine performance where he checked in at 6-foot-3 and 211 pounds with 4.41 speed and a 40.5-inch vertical. Having Pierce opposite Michael Pittman gives Matt Ryan a pair of tall vertical threats on the outside.
Ashton Dulin
Ashton Dulin Signs tender with Indianapolis
Tue, Apr 19, 2022, 11:16 AM
Dulin signed a one-year, $2.4 million contract with the Colts on Tuesday.
Analysis: Previously a restricted free agent, Dulin was presumably unable to field an offer better than the $2.4 million tender from the Colts, so he'll return to Indianapolis for a fourth straight season. Last year, the third-year wideout caught 13 of 22 targets for 173 yards and two touchdowns while rushing three times for 32 yards -- all career highs. He was also a key contributor on special teams (279 snaps) and racked up 206 kick-return yards. With T.Y. Hilton's status for the 2022 campaign still up in the air and the NFL Draft around the corner, it's unclear what Indianapolis' wide receiver depth chart will look like heading into training camp.
Signing with Colts
Fri, Apr 15, 2022, 12:08 PM
Kemp agreed to sign with the Colts on Friday, Mike Wells of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Kemp spent the 2020 season on the Titans' practice squad before missing all of 2021 with a shoulder injury. He'll serve as depth on the Colts' offensive line this year.
Gets two-year deal from Colts
Fri, Apr 15, 2022, 9:09 AM
Gilmore is signing a two-year contract with the Colts, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Analysis: The deal reportedly has a base value of $23 million, including $14 million guaranteed. Gilmore is 31 years old and missed 14 games over the past two seasons, but he's also just three years removed from a Defensive Player of the Year award (2019, with New England). The Patriots traded him to Carolina last fall while he was recovering from quad surgery, and he played eight games for the Panthers (three starts, two INTs) before missing the final two weeks with a groin injury and COVID-19. The Colts saw enough in the limited action to believe Gilmore can still be a high-quality starter, joining Kenny Moore to give the team a second playmaker at cornerback.
Inks in Indy
Tue, Apr 12, 2022, 10:26 AM
The Colts signed King to a contract Tuesday, Karen Guregian of the Boston Herald reports.
Analysis: King has operated as a core special-teams contributor with the Patriots since 2015, when he entered the league as an undrafted free agent out of Auburn. The 28-year-old stands to handle a similar role in Indianapolis, one which likely won't involve handling many snaps on defense.
Headed to Indianapolis
Fri, Apr 8, 2022, 3:25 PM
McLeod signed a contract with the Colts on Friday, Aaron Wilson of ProFootballNetwork.com reports.
Analysis: Over his last three seasons with the Eagles, McLeod registered 200 tackles, five interceptions, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries across 42 appearances. He'll likely fall behind Khari Willis and Julian Blackmon on the depth chart in Indianapolis, but McLeod should have a good chance at winning the slot role during training camp.
Retires from football
Wed, Apr 6, 2022, 10:28 PM
Windsor (groin/hip) announced via his personal Twitter account Wednesday he's retiring from the NFL.
Analysis: The 2020 sixth-round pick underwent major surgeries on his hip and groin last year, and he's decided to hang up his cleats due to the unexpected difficulties of the recovery process. Windsor appeared in two games as a rookie before sitting out the 2021 campaign due to the procedures.
Signs with Indianapolis
Tue, Apr 5, 2022, 3:15 PM
Watts signed a contract with the Colts on Tuesday, Mike Chappell of Fox 59 News Indianapolis reports.
Analysis: Watts appeared in 16 regular season games in each of the last three seasons with Kansas City, but he mostly operated on special teams. The 2018 fourth-round pick figures to garner a similar role for the Colts during the 2022 campaign.
Should be good for training camp
Mon, Apr 4, 2022, 10:32 AM
Blackmon (Achilles) is expected to be ready for training camp, Kevin Hickey of USA Today reports.
Analysis: Blackmon is recovering from a torn Achilles suffered back in October. Barring any setbacks, a typical recovery timeframe may allow him to participate in training camp activities and be available for Week 1 of the 2022 campaign.
